Cinemaware's Space Rangers 2: Rise of the Dominators has arrived on TotalGaming.net today! Space Rangers 2 is a unique combination of the space sim, adventure, and strategy genres. It features a huge, interconnected universe with more than 60 star systems and 250 planets, hundreds of AI ships to interact with, five different races to choose from and open-ended gameplay, where you can interact with the story or strike out on your own, and more!

A new and even more dangerous force than the Klissans is threatening the galaxy. A new extremely hazardous cyber-lifeform appears on one of the planets that used to be under Klissan control: powerful combat robots, who are not only capable of carrying out orders given to them, but who also have an intellect of their own. Possessed by their own programs, the battle machines come into space spreading fear and terror across the inhabited worlds.

Thanks to the Humans these robots become known as the Dominators. The civilized worlds are forced to withstand the oppression of three Dominator types: the Blazeroids, the Kelleroids, and the Terronoids. These three branches of machine evolution are at war with each other, which is only to the advantage of the Coalition Forces.

Space Rangers 2 can be purchased for $19.99 or just 2 tokens for TotalGaming.net members. For more information, visit http://totalgaming.stardock.com/games/?id=sr2.

Been playing SR2 for a few days now and I think it's really good. At least I'm having a blast with it. I agree (in theory) with the game designers that there is no real need for grippers on warrior class ships, but I strongly disagree with not being able to install them anyway. What's to stop an ambitious Ranger-Merchant from purchasing a decommissioned warship and turning it into a well-armed trader for pirate-infested systems? If it is felt that a handicap is needed, then make it use a weapon slot (if necessary for coding it could have zero range and zero damage as a weapon). I got a big surprise when I upgraded to a better-protected hull and found that my ultra-expensive gripper I had just bought wound up in the cargo bay.

Another thought.... How about when a ship reaches oh, say about 90%-95% damage, it becomes disabled and is able to be towed to a nearby planet and sold as salvage or even repaired and used by the capturer? This also brings up a question about the players ship getting captured. He could be held for ransom by pirates! If he's famous enough, one of the governments may ransom him and make him do pro bono missions to re-imburse them. If he's not famous, he could turn pirate or try to make an escape in the same way I had to do when I got arrested by the Maloqs.

Thoughts, anyone?

That 1 hour time limit is kinda what I thought, and typical of some companies that I don't do business with any more. You might remind players of the demo to skip the cinematic intro if they want to try as much of the gameplay as possible.
