New Power Saving Feature
Published on September 6, 2007 By Stardock Central In WinCustomize News

Stardock released DeskScapes 1.02 today.  It is available as a free download from dream.wincustomize.com and users of Object Desktop can now download the update application through Stardock Central.

Stardock DeskScapes allows users of Windows Vista Ultimate to have dynamic, animated wallpaper. It works as an extension to the Windows DreamScene Ultimate Extra that is available to all users of Windows Vista Ultimate.

Deskscapes now has a power saving feature that automatically turns off the animations when running on battery power. If you’re ever working on a laptop, this feature will especially come in handy as it will extend battery life, without having to remember to shut off the Dream animation manually. This feature is set as a default but can also be turned off manually by the user.

DeskScapes 1.02 also comes with a new Copper dream that creates a copper pool of ripples on your desktop. To find more dreams visit http://dream.wincustomize.com.

If you don’t have DeskScapes, click here for more information and a free download.

Is it my imagination or are dreams actually working better now? I've updated with all the performance patches for Vista as well as the newest v163+ nvidia drivers and this new version of Dreamscene, and for the first time ever, I've been able to leave my Blissful Sunset premium dream playing all the time on my dual monitor setup...without seemingly impairing my productivity.

Anyone else seeing this?

Cool!

Maybe just me but, I updated and now Vista keeps crashing when applying some dreams, such as, Azul3D, Copper Pool, & Ruby, they just give black screens then crash. and it deleted my dynamic earth, least I had it in backups. It plays fine. I updated through Stardock Central.

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.256.1

I've actually found DeskScapes to be far more stable since this release.
Before I couldn't have it running a .dream file without causing explorer to crash (and it being automatically disabled).

still crashes explorer for me. no copper dream when I downloaded it. and still won't start with windows without an error

There are no changes to VIDEO dreams.  If you have problems with those then you need to speak to your video card / video codec authors.

Crashes are usually video codecs (many buggy mpeg2 decoders out there - avoid 'codec packs').  Corruption is usually a video driver bug.

Version 1.01 worked great for me! and 1.02 should too, but doesn't. When I revert back to the previous version I have no problems, I think 1.02 is a little premature...

Edit:
I went back and did a complete unistall of Deskscapes (all versions) and found that the 1.02 install, had killed the vista dreamscenes, now only a .dream will play, and not all of them and only when Deskscapes is installed. what comes with vista is now dead.....
I'm only posting this, in hopes for a fix, and to get my vista back.

When installing this...I'm NOT seeing any new "copper dream", just the same three originals. And yes, I'm sure I have v1.02 installed.

For those missing the copper-dream: I think you need to install the Dreams separately. In SDC, click on the + next to "DeskScapes" to see the full tree and then download/install the "Dreams"-folder.

and it deleted my dynamic earth

Yes, I can confirm this. Luckily I had a backup of it as well!

Backup your DynamicEarth-Dream before upgrading!

OK, here's the deal...when I download and install this, Stardock Central keeps notifying me an update's available, then wants a registration number(this is freeware) yet it tells me my registration details don't coincide and wants me to go purchase a reg-code. What gives? This is FREE correct? Beyond that, in Stardock Central, it shows I have v1.02 installed, and has no little plus-sign to expand it...very confused here.

Hey guess what? My Stardock Central doesn't show a 1.02 verison. It shows me a 1.01 version with an update date of 9/7/07. How funny is that? SD never lets me down when it comes to getting a good laugh on update day.

Yeah, I know, I always complain, but I don't make these things up.

try rebooting your system or logging off your acount and go back into your account then try playing a dream scene if it still does not work then do this though it's a little lengthy.go to control panel then choose programs and features, you should see a link saying "view installed updates" you should see dream scenes listed, uninstall dream scenes and reboot. after the reboot do a windows update and dream scenes should be listed when the windows update finishes, go ahead and let windows redownload and reinstall dream scenes reboot when prompted.this should bring back your dream scenes. hopefully this works for you.i had the same problem with the 1.01 version.

ddraney:
I believe the version through SDC is for ObjectDesktop subscribers only and the free version is available through the link in the description above. In the past, the extra dreams like 'Dynamic Earth' were only for OD-Subscribers too. That's probably why we see an expanding tree in SDC and you not.
The description above is not clear whether the copper-dream is for OD-subscribers only or not, so I am really not sure whether you should see it or not.

JRSCCivic98:
Are you an ObjectDesktop subscriber? If yes, what version of SDC are you using? In most cases, SDC not showing an update is because SDC itself is not updated. Try updating SDC.

Thanks for the help...turns out I went back to the dream site, and was able to download a 67MB file rather then the 38MB file from the first version. Someone must've fixed the link to the updated program (thanks by the way). I'm not an object desktop subscriber, although I used to be, nowadays, I only purchase the componants I use most...mainly WB and IP. Guess I can add dreams to the list now that I'm running Vista.
