You may have noticed that there's been a lot of updates lately on Stardock Central. The reason for this is we are preparing for Stardock Central version 2. Version 2 has a much more robust back end than what we've previously had.

Stardock Central is the program that connects to Stardock.net which hosts Object Desktop and its suite of programs, WinCustomize.com, and Drengin.net and its suite of games. It is a way of streaming software and other content to you in a easy and reliable way.

The goal is to eliminate the little annoyances that users occasionaly run into where file sizes don't match or downloads get aborted and that sort of thing. We are also working to make it so that the first time you download a component it is a single compressed file rather than a bunch of little files which will help with download speeds.

Probably the most noticeable difference though is the propsed new interface. A lot of new users get confused by the current Stardock Central interface. The other drawback is that it is hard for us to keep expanding what Stardock Central does without the whole interface looking like a complicated thing.

The new interface is much cleaner and simpler to use. We hope to have Stardock Central 2 done in the next couple of months.

I have always found SDC fairly simple to use...but hey, if it will make things run smoother, and faster....GREAT.

Apparently it is xp theme aware now. Boy, I can't wait!

So that's why my laptop took forever to update last night. Not only was SDC getting an update, but just about every piece of OD that I have installed did too.

Now, if Logon Studio could be added to the system....

Have you considered putting all skinning aps in one spot? That would eliminate the need to search various places for cursor xp, object dock, etc... You could put them into the catagories of Skinning Aps, Skins & Themes, Utilites, Chat, News, Games, etc. I think that would help to make it simpler to use.

I am not sure if it would be a good idea, but you might consider adding controls for all the skinning aps as well. It could be your one stop place to update your aps, download skins, and apply the skins. That might be taking it in the direction of making it too complicated though.

Of course the current version of SDC worked well overall. However I can see how the updated look would be easier to use. It is providing consistancy between sections.

well I hope they finish it soon. Ever since I updated sdcentral a couple of weeks ago, I haven't been able to connect to the stardock servers through my proxy, even though I was able to do it fine before.

That makes me think, how can you download an updated version of SDCentral without SDCentral?

Xfiresoul, email bharper@stardock.com and explain that you're now having trouble with that. He's got something you can test with.

And https://www.stardock.com/support will resend the latest download link to a full installer. Which isn't always the exact level on auto-update, but we try to keep it updated to the major builds for consistency.

Docx, you need an updated SDC. http://storage.stardock.com/files/sdcentral_current.exe should get you set for tonight.
